The manganese oxide hybrid material stores oxygen atoms that combine with ferrous iron to form insoluble ferric oxide, which is trapped inside the resin bed. Oxygen is replenished by an air scour at the start of the cleaning cycle that also separates the suspended solids from the resin beads. Accumulated iron particles are then removed by backwash. SIR-1300 is intended for removal of ferrous iron from potable water.
