ResinTech offers a complete line of granular carbons and other ion exchange products that can be used for chlorine and chloramineremoval. ResinTech also offers catalytic carbons for removal of chloramines, hydrogen sulfide and other redox medias. Granular carbons remove chlorine by surface area reactions that convert chlorine and hypochlorous ion into traces of hydrochloric acid. This reaction is sensitive to high pH carbon surface area and flow rate, thus the finer mesh carbons work much faster than the coarser carbons. Removal of chloramines depends on redox sites on the carbon surface. Nut shell carbons have little or no catalytic capability, bituminous carbons have some, Centaur carbon has more. When a redox carbon reacts with the chlorine component of chloramines, the ammonia component is left behind in the water as free ammonia. Granular carbons can also be used to remove organic molecules such as pesticides, volatile organics and some naturally occurring organics. In general, the less water soluble, more aromatic and higher molecular weight organics are, the better they are removed by granular carbons. ll granular carbons provided by ResinTech can be shipped moist to eliminate dust during loading and are available acid washed and pre-rinsed to minimize the chance of high pH high conductivity during the initial start-up. |
